Helen Marie Humphrey died Monday after a series of illnesses.

A resident of the Shenango Senior Care of New Wilmington, she was born April 12, 1922, the daughter of J. Roy and Nellie Calvin Humphrey, and the sister of Margaret Jean Humphrey McClymonds.

She grew up on the Humphrey homestead farm in Worth Township and graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1940.

After graduation, she completed a course of study at the New Castle Business School and worked for many years at the Peoples Gas Co. in Grove City.

She was a former resident of Slippery Rock and an elder at the Highland Presbyterian Church in Slippery Rock. When she moved to New Castle, she was an active member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church.

After retirement, she traveled extensively in the United States, Europe, Asia and the South Pacific with her sister Jean, as well as taking part in church activities.

Helen had many friends and relatives who treasured her sunny disposition and loving kindness.

During her bouts with numerous health issues, she deeply appreciated the loving care of Sue Mathieson and Sharon Glenn, both part of her extended family. She will be sorely missed by her friends as well as her sister, Jean McClymonds; her nephew, Bob McClymonds; her niece, Linda Dunford; her grandniece, Anna Baker; and her grandnephew, James McClymonds.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Humphrey.

<B>HUMPHREY </B>— A service for Helen Marie Humphrey, who died Monday, March 23, 2009, will be held at 1 p.m. April 4 at the <B>Smith Funeral Home</B>, 310 W. Neshannock Ave., New Wilmington. Officiating will be the Rev. Andrew Jillson, pastor of the Northminster Presbyterian Church of New Castle. Burial will follow with a graveside service at the Zion Baptist Cemetery, Worth Township.Memorials may be given to Shenango Presbyterian Senior Care or to the Northminster Presbyterian Church.
