Partnership between Google and PASSHE offers SRU students new opportunity

A new public/private partnership between Google and the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education will make Google Career Certificates available to students at the 10 PASSHE member universities, including Slippery Rock University.

Earlier this week, Gov. Josh Shapiro unveiled the partnership, which will allow students to earn a Google Career Certificate during their regular undergraduate classes.

The program will offer training in cybersecurity, data analytics, digital marketing, business intelligence, IT support, project management and user experience design. Also involved with the Google Career Certificates program is an employer consortium with over 150 companies that look for Google-certified talent, according to a news release.

“It’s time for a blueprint for higher education focused on competitiveness and workforce development, one that is grounded in access and affordability,” said Gov. Shapiro. “Today, PASSHE has given us a clear example of what that can look like in practice, by connecting classroom learning to job-ready skills development so our students get the best of both worlds.”
