Edna Effie Steinhagen

Edna Effie Steinhagen, 93, passed from this life into a new life in Heaven Saturday following a brief stay at Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot.

Born Oct. 29, 1922, in the Campton area of Natrona Heights to Fred and Lillian (Walter) Roberts Dunning, she spent most of her adult life living in Fawn Township. For the past 11 years, she was a resident at Fairwinds Manor, Sarver.

A 1940 graduate of Har-Brack High School, she worked in the office of Allegheny Ludlum Steel during World War II.

After the war, she married Charles Steinhagen in June 1947 and moved to Fawn Township, where she was a homemaker.

She enjoyed traveling to Alaska and going to camp in Tionesta and Potter County. Among other places, she traveled to Washington, D.C., for the “Notch Baby” Social Security protests and to various Army reunions with her husband.

She appreciated music but never played an instrument, attending high school band competitions, school musicals and listening to big band music like Glenn Miller and Tommy Dorsey.

One of her great pleasures was watching her children and grandchildren play baseball and softball, attending as many of their games as possible.

A member of the Millerstown United Methodist Church, she attended Bible study and belonged to the United Methodist Women's group.

She is survived by her son, Lyle (Maria) Steinhagen; her daughter, Mona (Bernie) Chelko; her daughter-in-law, Penny Steinhagen; her daughter, Dotty Baxter; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were her husband, Charles “Bud” Steinhagen; her son, Kirk Steinhagen; her grandson, Jason Chelko; her brothers, Emery Roberts, Robert Dunning and Charles Dunning; three sisters, Pauline Heineman, Edith Fleischman and Eleanor “Eloise” James; and two siblings, John and Mildred, who died as children.
