Evan Wright continued his stellar senior season with 177 rushing yards and three scores on just 15 carries and Luke Goodworth passed for two touchdowns as Mars opened Greater Allegheny Conference play with a decisive 42-6 football win at Indiana on Friday.
Gabe Hein caught both of Goodworth’s scoring tosses.
Mars (3-1, 1-0) travels to Moon next Friday.
A-C Valley 12, Brockway 7 — The Falcon Knights washed the taste of last week’s blowout loss to Central Clarion out of their mouths against a previously-undefeated Rovers crew. Brody Dittman went 12-of-21 for 216 yards and connected with Owen Bish for a seven-yard air strike in the second quarter.
Bish had four grabs for 86 yards and also led the team on defense with 11 stops.
Easton Wingard’s six-yard rushing touchdown with 3:54 to play in the third frame wound up being the difference. It was Wingard’s only carry of the night. Max Gallagher paced the team with 35 yards rushing on 16 gives.
Karns City 30, Saint Marys 7 — After losing their first two games of the season, the Gremlins evened their record with this dominant win in Elk County. No other details were available.
KC (2-2, 1-1) hosts Moniteau on Thursday.
Sharpsville 23, Slippery Rock 6 — The Rockets (1-3, 1-1) held a potent Blue Devils team well below its season-average in points, but could manage just one score themselves with Eli Anderson’s touchdown pass to Doug Popovec.
Rochester 42, Summit Academy 6 — The Knights (0-4) remained winless with this road defeat.
Cross Country
Alexis Kirschner of Moniteau won the girls race against North Clarion, running a time of 24 minutes, 12.28 seconds. The Warriors’ Lucy Hartle took second in 26:23.24.
North Clarion’s Gabriel Fair won the boys race in 18:29.55. Moniteau’s Peyton Beck was second in 18:46.590 and Allen Matz was fourth in 19:48.44.
There were not enough runners to keep a team score.
Boys Golf
Butler clinched a section title with a 185-192 win over Pine-Richland at Slippery Rock Golf Club.
The Golden Tornado (11-2, 8-2) were led by Hunter Swidzinski (34), Jase Renwick (36) and Levi McClellan (37).
Pine-Richland’s top scorers included Zach Howard (36), Roger Williams (37) and Sam Schneck (37).
