Paul R. Hobaugh Jr., 89, of Butler passed away at 9:37 a.m. Sunday at Butler Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 4, 1922, in Butler, to the late Paul R. Hobaugh Sr. and the late Elva M. (Armagost) Hobaugh, who passed away at his birth. Martha Miller married Paul Sr. and raised Paul Jr. as her own.

Mr. Hobaugh owned and operated Hobaugh's Upholstery Shop in Butler. In the 1950s he was a radio announcer at WISR/WBUT. In his later years he was a meter man in the city of Butler until his retirement.

He was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, 1383rd Military Police Company serving in World War II.

Mr. Hobaugh was a member of the Valencia United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer and also sang in the Chancel Choir. He was the former chairman and secretary of the board of the Butler Parking Authority. Mr. Hobaugh was a former president of the Butler County Safety Council, member and past president of the Butler County Symphony Association and a former board member of the Butler Planning and Zoning Commission.

He was past president and state director of the Junior Chamber of Commerce of the Jaycees, was a member and past president of the Butler Kiwanis Club, served on the local election board, was the former director of the City Civil Defense and was a founding board member of the 911 communications center. He also was a former Butler City Councilman, chairman of the Selective Service Board and a past member of the M.O.R.A. Club.

Mr. Hobaugh was the recipient of the True Citizen Award in Local Government and also was the recipient of the Service Appreciation Award from Butler County Safety Council. He assisted in the founding of the Little League Baseball Program in Butler.

His greatest interests were his family, church and friends.

Mr. Hobaugh, is survived by one daughter, Ruth A. Crotzer and her husband, Richard V., of Butler;, four grandchildren, Gregory P. Crotzer, Daniel J. O'Brien, Rebecca S. Gabriel and Jeffery M. Crotzer; four great-grandchildren; and also a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Esther S. Hobaugh, who he married on Oct. 5, 1946, and who passed away on Sept. 11, 2011, and one daughter, Paula Hobaugh Diggs, who passed away on April 28, 1993.

<B>HOBAUGH</B> — Friends of Paul R. Hobaugh Jr., who passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St., Butler. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Valencia United Methodist Church, 66 Almira St., Valencia, with Pastor Robert Martin officiating. Burial will take place in Butler County Memorial Park.Officers and members of the American Legion Post 778 Lyndora and the VFW Post 249 will conduct military services following the funeral service.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Valencia United Methodist Church, 66 Almira St., Valencia, PA 16059.Information and a private guest book are available at www.thompson-miller.com.
