Frank J. Raible

Frank Joseph Raible, 95, of Holiday, Fla., formerly of Butler, died Sunday at the Hernando Pasco Hospice in New Port Richey, Fla. He moved to Florida in 1983 and had lived in Cape Canaveral before moving to Holiday.

Born Jan. 28, 1911, in Binsdorf, Germany, he was a son of Josef and Maria Jehle Raible.

He immigrated to the United States in 1927 and had been a driver for the Riecks Ice Cream Co. and the Sealtest Dairy Co.

Mr. Raible was a member of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church.

He served in the Army during World war II and participated in the Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns. He was a member of VFW Post 249, where he had served as commander twice. He also was a member of American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora.

He was an active gardener and liked to plant flowers. He also loved to play cards; and while living in Butler, he belonged to the American Legion Dart League.

Surviving are a son, Rainer Sliwinski of Manheim, Germany; a daughter, Pamela P. Raible of Butler; a brother, Markus Raible of Germany; two sisters, Maria Fetscher and Lena Raible, both of Germany; a grandson, Joseph A. Plaisted, whom he raised as a son, of Holiday, Fla.; a stepson, William Plaisted, and a stepdaughter, Helen DeRubeis.

He also is survived by three nephews, William J. and Carl G. McDowell, both of Butler, and Frank N. McDowell of Parker; three nieces, Janice M. Sherman of Butler, Magdalena G. Spence and her husband, Ed, of South Carolina, and Sally Murdick and her husband, Carl, of Butler; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews in Germany.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Armida DeSantis Raible, who died March 9, 1999, and his previous wife, Helen Blair Raible. He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Ernest and Josef Raible; two sisters, Magdalena McDowell and Clara Raible; a half-sister, Anna Conzelmann, and a stepson, Tony Treme Sr.

<B>Raible </B>— Friends of Frank Joseph Raible, who died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006, will be received from 10:30 to 12:30 p.m. Friday at <B>Geibel Funeral Home</B>, 201 E. Cunningham St. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church, 127 Franklin St., with the Rev. Pierre Falkenhan officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion Mausoleum, Butler County Memorial Park cemetery, Butler Township.Military honors will be performed at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 778 Ceremonial Squad.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
