John R. "Sheik" Michaels, 84, of Lyndora died of natural causes Sunday at the Butler Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

He served in the Marines Corps during World War II and saw action in the invasion of Iwo Jima and in Saipan.

Mr. Michaels was a pilgrim degree and life member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 64. He also was a life member of the VFW Post 249.
