West Sunbury firefighter flown from motorcycle crash in Clay Township
A firefighter from West Sunbury Volunteer Fire Department was injured in a motorcycle crash in Clay Township on Tuesday night, Sept. 19, after leaving a training, according to the department.
The firefighter was taken via helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh, according to officials.
Dispatchers reported a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle around 10:15 p.m. near the intersection of Euclid and Davis Roads. The West Sunbury department was dispatched to the call, along with Unionville Volunteer Fire Company and Butler Ambulance Service.
A medical helicopter was requested for the firefighter, who was unconscious and bleeding from the head, according to dispatchers. Firefighters said the helicopter landed at the Clay Township Community Park behind the township building on Euclid School Road.
No other injuries were reported at the scene, officials said.
The department asked for prayers for the firefighter, and said they are being treated for “serious injuries.”
