Meadowcroft Village to host American Indian Heritage Weekend
Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village in Jefferson Township, Washington County, is hosting an American Indian Heritage Weekend on Sept. 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Throughout the weekend, children who visit the museum will get the chance to experience what life was like in the 19th century for Indian tribes in Western Pennsylvania, including the Seneca-Cayuga, Eastern Shawnee, and Moravian Delaware tribes.
The museum’s titular showcase is the Meadowcroft Rockshelter, which is considered one of the earliest known sites of human habitation in North America.
Admission is free for visitors age 17 and under, thanks to financial support from Alex E. Paris Contracting and Washington Financial Bank. The event is also free for members of the Senator John Heinz History Center.
