A restless Scoop eyes perfection

We’re almost halfway into the high school football season and I feel like I’m flying against the wind.

I’m doing everything I can to make progress, but the result has been back-to-back 8-3 weeks — not good enough for yours truly, who once went 102-14 in a season.

More challenges await me, 10 games on this week’s schedule. All I can do is give it my best shot and here it is.

Erie at Butler — It’s been an up and down season so far for the Golden Tornado, but playing at home with a chance to clinch a postseason berth will be enough motivation against the Royals.

Score: Butler 24-17

Mt. Lebanon at Seneca Valley — The Raiders were shut out by Canon-McMillan in their first conference test two weeks ago. They will score Friday, just not enough.

Score: Mt. Lebanon 29-15

Mars at Moon — The Tigers are coming off a huge upset of Penn Hills, but I just can’t pick against a Mars team playing superbly on both sides of the ball.

Score: Mars 30-13

Knoch at Elizabeth Forward — With the way Knoch has been playing, it’s going to take a great team and clutch efforts to push the Knights from the ranks of the unbeaten. I see the Warriors being that team.

Score: Elizabeth Forward 28-21

North Catholic at Kiski Area — I picked against the Trojans last week, but their defense seemed to figure some things out with a 19-0 blanking of previously undefeated Highlands. I’m officially on the bandwagon.

Score: North Catholic 43-11

Freeport at Mount Pleasant — A lopsided loss to Armstrong last week can’t be sitting well with the Yellowjackets and the Vikings will pay the price.

Score: Freeport 25-10

Moniteau at Karns City — The Warriors have lost two straight while the Gremlins have won two in a row. Those trends will continue, but not without doubt until late.

Score: Karns City 31-18

Grove City at Slippery Rock — The Rockets are struggling on offense while the Eagles have an experienced, dual-threat at quarterback in Hunter Hohman.

Score: Grove City 27-8

Union/A-C Valley at Kane — Few picked the Falcon Knights to upset Brockway last week, but they did. The Wolves will offer little resistance.

Score: Union/A-C Valley 39-6

Northgate at Summit Academy — The Flames will earn victory in Herman on Saturday.

Score: Northgate 37-12
