Velma P. Critchlow

Velma P. Critchlow, 84, of Harrisville died Thursday at her winter residence in St. Cloud, Fla.

Born Oct. 17, 1921, in Harrisville, she was the daughter of Roy F. and Mary A. Hockenberry Michael.

She co-owned a family farm with her husband.

She was a member of the Harrisville United Methodist Church. She was also a life member of Wesley Grange where she was past master, a member of the Pomona Grange and the state and national grange. She was a 4-H leader and a member of the National Camping Travelers and Pine Grove Rovers. She was a past worth high priestess of the Grove City White Shrine of Jerusalem 53 and a member of Grove City Order of Eastern Star 86.

During high school, she was a member of the Harrisville High School basketball team.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. James L. (Rita P.) Kennedy of Valencia, Mrs. Clifford G. (Sondra A.) Buchanan of Harrisville, Mrs. Robert J. (Mary Sue) Steele of Slippery Rock, Mrs. Jeffery L. (Tracey J.) Knox of Grove City and Mrs. David B. (Brenda J.) Leslie of Connoquenessing; and two sons, Lynn E. Critchlow of Grove City and Paul J. Critchlow Sr. of Harrisville.

Also surviving are a sister, Mildred Smith of Harrisville; two brothers, James Michael of Grove City and George Michael of Cortland, Ohio; 23 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean E. Critchlow, whom she married Oct. 28, 1939, and who died Sept. 11, 1994. She was also preceded in death by a son, an infant daughter and two brothers.

CRITCHLOW — Friends of Velma P. Critchlow, who died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the JAMISON FUNERAL HOME, 117 N. Main St., Harrisville.Additional visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday at the Harrisville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jeffrey T. St. Clair will officiate.Burial will be at Prairie Cemetery in Harrisville.Memorial donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Western Pennsylvania, 810 River Ave., Suite 100, Pittsburgh, PA 15212.
