Man dies after being struck by train in Butler

A 54-year-old Butler Township man died Wednesday, Oct. 4, after being struck by a train in the city, according to police.

Crews responded to the 200-block of South Monroe Street at 4:31 a.m. for report of a pedestrian struck by a Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad Company train, Butler City Police Department Chief Robert O’Neill said.

Emergency responders performed lifesaving measures on the man, O’Neill said. He was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead, O’Neill said.

O’Neill said the incident appears to be accidental, but is still under investigation. There are no charges associated with the incident, he added.

The Butler County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy Wednesday night, according to officials. Police said the family of the man was notified of his death.

Butler Bureau of Fire and Butler Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
