Fennell shines as North Catholic tops Hampton

HAMPTON — North Catholic head coach Chris Rizzo calls senior running back Jack Fennell his Swiss army knife.

Behind Fennell – who rushed for 124 yards and four touchdowns – the Trojans (4-3, 3-1) took down Hampton (2-5, 2-1), 28-16, on Friday night.

“We do a lot of things with him, and we ask him to play a lot of different positions,” Rizzo said of Fennell. “I’m very impressed with his ability to not just know what we are doing, but to go out there and execute it.”

Fennell entered the game averaging 7.3 yards per contest, and it’s been a point of emphasis all season for the Trojans to get him the ball in space.

“I believe in myself in space,” Fennell said.

Fennell also recovered a blocked punt on special teams and is now up to 13 touchdowns on the season.

Jason Siket – senior quarterback turned wide receiver – led the Trojans in receiving yards just one week after changing positions.

“It’s a big time sign for where we are going as a team to take a captain like Jason Siket, move him to a different position this late in the season then watch him go out and produce,” Rizzo said. “It shows his love for the game and his commitment to his family, his school, his teammates… I’m so incredibly proud of that kid.”

Taking over at quarterback for Siket was senior Kaden Sarver. Sarver completed 73% of his passes for 139 yards.

“Jason had a great game going from quarterback last week to wide receiver this week and made a big impact on the game, he helped us win this game” Fennell said. “Same with Kaden going to quarterback this week, not starting at all this season, it was just great by both of them to step into those positions and play hard.”

Fennell said postgame that his team is trying to create a culture centered around tough football.

By carrying the ball 24 times, Fennell put his toughness on full display.

North Catholic will look to make it two wins in a row next week vs Avonworth.
