Alva L. Hill

Alva Hill

Alva L. Hill, 94, of Butler passed away peacefully at 6:30 a.m. Friday at his home.

He was born on Aug. 23, 1920, in Allegheny Township, to the late A. Leroy Hill and Pearl A. Salsgiver Hill.

After retiring from the Army Air Corps as a captain and serving in World War II as a P-51 Mustang fighter pilot, Alva attended Carnegie Institute of Technology and later was a founding principal of the Burt Hill architectural firm in Butler.

After retirement, Alva volunteered as an honorary professor in the Architectural Program at Butler County Community College for 15 years.

Alva is survived by his wife, Grace Y. Hill, who he married on March 21, 1981; his four sons, Daniel (Laura) of Brooklyn, N.Y., Timothy (Kathleen) of Georgetown, Texas, David (Cynthia) of Butler and Jerold (Margaret) of Norristown; his daughter, Janis of Leechburg; his two stepdaughters, Gail Corwin of Fairview and Rebecca Kennedy of Cranberry Township; his four grandchildren, Leigh, Nathan, Marlowe and Sarah Hill; his four stepgrandchildren, Jessie Zablotny, Damon Rizzone and Zachary and Drew Kennedy; and his two step-great-grandchildren, Samuel and Abigail Zablotny.

Hill — In accordance with Alva's wishes, there will be no public visitation for Alva L. Hill, who passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2015.A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Thompson-Miller Funeral Home, 124 E. North St., Butler.Memorial gifts may be made to the Butler County Association for the Blind, 322 N. Cedar St., Butler, PA 16001.
