George E. Meeker
George E. Meeker, 83, of 14 Sheakley Ave., Hempfield Township, Greenville, passed away Monday afternoon at his residence of natural causes.
Born in Greenville, Feb. 28, 1925, he was the son of George Meeker and Mabel Dorwart Meeker.
He was a graduate of Penn High School in Greenville and Penn State University, State College.
He retired in 1988 from Humana Hospital in Texas as an engineer after seven years. He previously was an engineer for Mine Safety Appliances for 30 years.
He previously attended St, John's' United Church of Christ in Greenville. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Eureka Lodge 290, the Elks Lodge 145, the Moose Lodge 276, the American Legion Post 140 and the Italian Home Club, and he was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 3374, all of Greenville.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS California.
Surviving are his wife, Florence Irene Cline Meeker of Greenville, whom he married Aug. 28, 1945; three daughters, Nancy Bambic of Chads Ford, Carol Hicks and her husband, Bob, of Union City, Calif., and Susan Meeker of Greenville; a son, David L. Meeker of Bryan, Texas; three sisters, Betty, Melinda and Nancy; a grandchild, Kela Cabrales and her husband, Carlos; and two great-grandchildren, Amelia and Gabriel Cabrales.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Birdella and Evelyn.
<B>MEEKER</B> — A memorial service for George E. Meeker, who died Monday, Aug. 4, 2008, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the <B>Loutzenhiser-Jordan Colonial Funeral Home</B>, 366-368 S. Main St., Greenville. The Rev.
