Eleanor J. Markham

Eleanor J. Markham, 87, formerly of Mercer Street, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sunnyview Home.

Born Nov. 21, 1920, in Weirton, W.Va., she was the daughter of the Homer Redd and Nellie Glass.

She was the first executive director of the Butler County Society for Crippled Children and Adults and served for 19 years. She was also the administrator of the Children's Rehabilitation Center and for 21 years the executive director for the Mid-Western Pennsylvania Heart Association for Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties. She retired in 1989.

Mrs. Markham was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a former member of the Quota Club and a member of the Butler County Health and Welfare organization.

She enjoyed making crafts.

Mrs. Markham is survived by two sons, Ronald Jr. and Donald Markham, both of Butler; a daughter; a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Homer L. Redd of Ligonier; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Mary Brown and Mrs. Otto (Lois Elma) Blymiller, both of Butler, and seven nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald M. Markham, who died June 13, 1999.

<B>MARKHAM</B> — Friends of Eleanor J. Markham, who died Wednesday, June 25, 2008, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Thompson-MilLer Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lisa Grant of Christ Community United Methodist Church officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Devotion, Butler County Memorial Park.Contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church, 200 E.
