C. Lysle Sylves

C. Lysle Sylves, 90, of Indiana, Pa., formerly of Swissvale and Tarpon Springs, Fla., died Friday.

A son of the late Clyde A. and Emily E. Mattson Sylves, he was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Swissvale.

Mr. Sylves was a decorated World War II veteran, having served from 1941 to 1945. His military career began at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Md., for ordnance training. Following a transition of assignments at Camp Maxey, Texas, Camp Shank, N.Y., and Fort Clayton, Panama, Tech. Sgt. Sylves provided ordnance support to units involved in the Normandy landing, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe campaigns.

He and his wife, Margaret, owned and operated a real estate and insurance brokerage for four decades in Swissvale.

He was a board member and trustee of the Swissvale United Methodist Church, chairman of the Swissvale Borough Building Committee and was active in the Lions Club, Boy Scouts, Meals on Wheels and the National Association of Real Estate Brokers.

Due to health reasons, he and Margaret moved to Tarpon Springs, Fla., where they enjoyed retirement for 22 years. In 2000, they returned to Indiana to be with family and friends.

While in Indiana, Mr. Sylves was a four-year member of the YMCA Silver Sneakers and a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Margaret B. Tilley Sylves of Indiana; a daughter, Ellen Ruddock and her husband, MG Rodney Ruddock, retired, of Indiana; a son, Paul L. Sylves and his wife, Jane, of Butler; a brother, Robert G. Sylves and wife, Alice, of Lancaster; grandchildren, Dana Ruddock and his wife, Michele, of Moon Township, Darin Ruddock of Palm Beach, Fla., Joy Sylves of Butler, Megan Sylves of Swissvale, and Kevin Akridge of Cabot, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Andrea Ruddock of Raleigh, N.C., Reagan and Owen Ruddock of Moon Township and Ava Boffoli of Swissvale; a niece, Janet Fry Cappy of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and six nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Vivian May Akridge.

<B>SYLVES</B> — Visitation for C. Lysle Sylves, who died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, was Sunday at the <B>ROBINSON-LYTLE INC. </B>funeral home in Indiana. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. today in the Grace United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Brad Lauster officiating.
