Police ID driver who allegedly hit 11-year-old girl at Slippery Rock bus stop

Chief says charges will be filed

Slippery Rock police have identified the man driving the car that struck an 11-year-old Slippery Rock Area Middle School student who was crossing the street to get on a school bus last week.

Gavin Watson, 20, of Munhall, will be charged with meeting or overtaking a school bus, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving, Chief Terry Fedokovitz said in a Monday, Oct. 23, email.

The 11-year-old was waiting for the school bus that had stopped and activated its red lights and stop sign, police said. She was crossing Franklin Street near the intersection at Vincent Street when she was struck by a black Honda Civic traveling eastbound on Franklin Street being driven by Watson, police said.

The child was transported to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh by the Slippery Rock Volunteer Fire and Rescue Team with suspected serious injuries. The child has since made it home and is recovering from minor injuries.
