Marcia June Slaughenhoupt

Marcia June Slaughenhoupt, 80, of Sligo passed away at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center near Sligo.

Marcia was born at home under an oil lamp in Robinson Township, Allegheny County, on June 1, 1933, to the late Boyd A. and Marian Petrie Gore.

She graduated with the last class at Bruin High School in 1953.

Marcia worked at her parents' Gore's Grocery Store in Bruin while in school and until she married Harold Slaughenhoupt in Harrisville on Oct. 22, 1955. He passed away on May 2, 2003.

She was a member of the Sligo Presbyterian Church, was active as a deacon and baked pies for church dinners.

Marcia enjoyed reading and watching “Gunsmoke.” She was kind and thoughtful, always trying to help others, and will be greatly missed by her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Marcy Lynn Mason and her husband, James, of Sligo; her granddaughter, Jamie Mason Lomax and her husband, Wes, of Melbourne, Fla., and her sister, Jeanne Kepple and her husband, Robert, of Hilliards.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Allen Boyd Gore.

SlaugHenhoupt — The family of Marcia June Slaughenhoupt, who passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014, will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Varner Funeral Home, 1632 Bald Eagle St., Sligo.Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sligo Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Stephanie Weaver, pastor, officiating.
