Gremlins advance to District 9 title game

Lathan Price and Colson Ritzert both deposited a pair of markers as Karns City’s boys soccer team defeated Port Allegany, 6-1, in a District 9 Class A semifinal at Diehl Stadium on Thursday.

Jacob Callihan and Braden Slater also scored for the Gremlins (15-3-1), while Price, Callihan, Carter Ritzert, and Dane King all dished out helpers. Lucas Yasika had five saves.

Girls Volleyball

Second-seeded Seneca Valley downed visiting Peters Township in four sets Thursday night to advance to the WPIAL Class 4A semifinals.

Mercyhurst Prep 3, Slippery Rock 0 — Anora Robare dished out 38 assists in this District 10 Class 2A quarterfinal matchup — surpassing 1,000 for her Rockets career — but Slippery Rock was swept by scores of 25-18, 25-21, and 30-28.

Molly Bissell had 14 kills and Avalee Demidovich added 13. CJ Sabo reach 100 blocks on the season with six on the night. Lexi Plesakov led the defense with 15 digs.

Girls Soccer

Mars’ Rosie Pellegrino buried a Kayleigh Clark assist to provide the difference in a 1-0 WPIAL Class 3A quarterfinal win over Elizabeth Forward at home Thursday night. The top-seeded Planets will play No. 5 South Fayette — a 3-0 winner over Thomas Jefferson — in the semifinals.

Upper St. Clair 2, Butler 0 — The Golden Tornado’s season ended with a 2-0 WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinal loss on the road against the second-seeded Panthers. Butler finishes with a 10-7-1 mark.
