Child struck by vehicle Tuesday while trick-or-treating, police seeking driver
City police are searching for a driver accused of a hit-and-run crash, where a 4-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle while trick-or-treating Tuesday night, Oct. 31, on Center Avenue.
According to Butler City Police Department Chief Robert O’Neill, officers responded at 6:26 p.m. Tuesday to the crash within the 600 block of Center Avenue.
Police said the vehicle involved was a dark green GMC or Chevrolet SUV. There is no other information on the driver at this time. Investigators said it’s possible the driver was unaware that they struck the child.
The 4-year-old was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for minor injuries and has been released.
The boy’s mother posted on Facebook on Wednesday, asking anyone with information about the driver of the SUV to contact police.
“I understand accidents happen, but take accountability for your actions,” she wrote. “My 4-year-old son almost died last night in front of his parents and siblings. If that doesn’t weigh on you then you’re the one who deserves pity.”
City police requested any witnesses to the crash contact the Butler County 911 center or contact Lt. Rensel with information at 724-287-7743 extension 213.
