CRANBERRY TWP — The Cranberry Township Police Department has formally welcomed Benjamin Miller into its ranks as its newest officer. The swearing-in ceremony took place Thursday night, Nov. 2, at the Cranberry Township board of supervisors meeting.

Miller, originally from Bloomsburg, attended Edinboro University as a criminal justice major and graduated from Mercyhurst University’s Municipal Police Training Academy last year. Before accepting his new position in Cranberry Township, he served as a patrol officer for the Allegheny Valley Regional Police Department in Harwick.

According to board of supervisors chairman Mike Manipole, the hiring process took about six months.

“We’re really looking forward to watching him grow and succeed and become an honorable member of a great group of individuals,” Manipole said. “Ben competed with a large group of candidates. He competed for this position and rose to the top.”

Miller’s fiancé, Riley Smith, was on hand for the swearing-in ceremony, along with his soon-to-be in-laws, Chris and Amy Smith.

Manipole administered the oath, in which Miller swore to “uphold, obey and enforce the law without consideration to a person’s race, color, sex, religious creed, sexual orientation, age, national origin, ancestry, handicap or disability.”
