2 charged following chase on I-79 in Muddy Creek Township
Two men in a stolen vehicle were charged after a police pursuit on Interstate 79 in Muddy Creek Township last week, according to documents.
Dashawn Zigler, 20, and Jeffrey T. Hill, 28, both of Erie, were charged with felonies following the chase Nov. 1. Both were placed in Butler County Prison.
Zigler was charged with felonies theft and fleeing police, misdemeanor evading arrest and several traffic citations. He was placed in jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Hill was charged with felonies theft, aggravated assault and terroristic threats. He was placed in jail in lieu of $250,000 bail.
According to court documents, state police pursued a Chevrolet Trailblazer south on the highway after it was reported stolen in Erie. Zigler, who police say was the driver, did not yield to a traffic stop.
Police said as the chase continued, Ziegler drove in between two lanes, on the berm, and even sped through a posted construction zone at 110 mph.
When the vehicle stopped, police said Ziegler fled the scene and was later apprehended by responding troopers.
Hill was discovered to be the passenger, and documents showed he and Ziegler were discussing how they almost “got away to Pittsburgh” in the back of the patrol vehicle.
Police said Hill attempted to spit on a trooper and stated to another that “when these cuffs are off there will be bloodshed.”
Hill and Zigler have preliminary hearings scheduled Wednesday, Nov. 8.
