State trooper, Zelie woman injured in Tuesday crash
A state trooper and a Zelienople woman were injured in a crash while police were responding to a call Tuesday evening, Nov. 28, on Route 422 in Prospect, according to officials.
Trooper Philip Treadway and Carly Pelletier, 18, of Zelienople suffered minor injuries from the partially head-on collision, according to Trooper Bertha Cazy, public information officer with Troop D on Friday, Dec. 1.
“A trooper was responding a call when he and another vehicle were both attempting to utilize the middle turning lane while traveling in opposite directions. Both units struck head-on at a partial angle,” Cazy said.
The crash, which involved Treadway’s patrol vehicle, occurred around 5:40 p.m. Tuesday on Route 422, west of Unionville Road. Treadway was responding to an incident on Schantz Road in Prospect, Cazy said.
“While (he) was merging from the westbound travel lane of Route 422, his unmarked patrol unit struck an orange Subaru Crosstrek SUV that was also attempting to utilize the middle turning lane while traveling eastbound,” Cazy said.
Treadway’s vehicle traveled 180 feet before coming to rest, and the Subaru, operated by Pelletier spun counterclockwise after impact, Cazy said.
Pelletier suffered a neck injury, but refused medial attention. Treadway was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for his injuries, Cazy said.
Both vehicles were towed due to heavy front-end damage, according to Cazy.
The investigation is ongoing.
