Best Bets: Events to check out this holiday season in Butler County

The following events are sure to spark some holiday cheer in the hearts of your family and friends. Find a gift, meet Santa Claus, and experience art and music in and around Butler County throughout December.

Miracle on Main returns to Zelienople

Miracle on Main in Zelienople runs from 4 to 8 p.m. Dec. 7.

The event features children’s activities, carriage rides, Santa Claus, a live nativity, carolers and a parade.

The Elf on Shelf Open House features Main Street stores from 4 to 8 p.m. A cookie-decorating contest also spans the duration of the event at Spring & Main Cafe, 109 N. Main St.

A live nativity can be seen at the corner of Main and East Spring streets from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. During this time, live reindeer will be at the Buhl House, and live alpacas will be at the Passavant House.

Live performances will happen between 4:30 and 8 p.m. at Main and East New Castle streets. Carriage rides run from 5 to 8 p.m., with a break for the Light Up Christmas Parade from 6:30 to 7 p.m.

Santa makes his debut during the parade. He will be available for visits for the last hour of the event.

Those in attendance also have opportunities to donate children’s coats, nonperishable food and money to organizations in the community, as well. This is possible at three tents located along Main Street.

A shuttle service will run for the duration of the event, with a break for the parade.

Photos with Santa available

Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be available for photos from 1 to 3 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Jean B. Purvis Community Health Center, 103 Bonnie Drive.

Those who attend can enjoy complimentary doughnut holes and hot chocolate.

One free 5x7 photo will be provided per child during the visit. Additional prints are available for purchase. Group photos are not allowed as the free print and will require an additional print purchase.

This is a first-come, first-served event.

Production planned by Butler Little Theatre

Butler Little Theatre’s production of the play “The Last Mass at St. Casamir’s” runs until Saturday, Dec. 9.

The show tells the story of the Pazinski family, who gathered together to say goodbye to a childhood home. A blizzard traps them there, forcing them to reconnect rather than go their separate ways

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday and 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Cranberry Men’s Chorus to perform Dec. 14

The Cranberry Men’s Chorus will perform holiday tunes from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church in Gibsonia, 3281 Wexford Road.

The group fosters a love for barbershop music, according to its website.

Butler Orchestra Program to hold winter concert

The Butler Orchestra Program performs its annual Winter Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, in the Butler Intermediate High School auditorium.

Students in sixth through 12th grades will perform popular holiday hits.

The free show will feature a variety of winter holiday music.

It is followed by the Butler Rock Orchestra performing hits by the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

Breakfast with Santa at St. Conrad’s

St. Conrad Roman Catholic Church is planning a Breakfast with Santa event.

The community is invited to eat breakfast with Santa at St. Conrad’s Social Hall, 125 Buttercup Road, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16.

There also will be photo opportunities with the big man himself, cookie decorating and other festivities.

Bluegrass Christmas music at Butler Little Theatre

The community is invited to experience a bluegrass Christmas special at the Keystone Opry’s performance at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, in the Butler Little Theatre, 1 Howard St.

The band Middleground and other special guests will be rocking around the tree.

‘Miracle of Jesus’ on display at Chicora church

Chicora Alliance Church is inviting families to experience Bethlehem at the “Miracle of Jesus” event at 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17.

The event features multisensory experiences that transport you back in time to when Jesus was born.

Lights on display at fairgrounds

Twinkling lights are on display, flashing along to Christmas music at the Holiday Spectacular Light Show at the Big Butler Fairgrounds, 1127 New Castle Road, from now until New Year’s Day.

Shows run daily from 5:30 to 11 p.m.

Harmony’s Silvester to celebrate New Year with German twist

Harmony’s Silvester (New Year’s Eve) Celebration in Historic Harmony honors the borough’s German roots.

The events start at 3:30 p.m. with a 5K race, Christmas tree toss and other activities.

The new year is celebrated with a ball drop at 6 p.m. (midnight in Germany).

Enchanted Lights holiday exhibit to run through Jan. 5

An outdoor holiday walk-through exhibit just outside of Cranberry made its debut last week and will run each weekend through Jan. 5.

Enchanted Lights features holiday light displays, gathering spots with campfires as well as a concession area with seasonal food and drinks, including craft-made cocktails at the Boyd and Blair Holiday Pop-Up Bar.

“After more than a year of planning and building, we are so excited to finally launch Enchanted Lights,” Alex Krischke, project manager for the event, said. “I’ve grown up producing events with my parents, and putting together a holiday-inspired event has been my dream for years.”

Owners Ryan and Debra Krischke have been putting on events for nearly 40 years.
