Bernice Lusk Harper, 99, of Zelienople passed away Tuesday at the Creek Meadows Senior Guest Haus.

Born on Feb. 5, 1915, in Zelienople, she was the daughter of the late Herbert and Emma Schaeffer Lusk.

She would have celebrated her 100th birthday next month.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey E. Harper Jr., whom she married on June 8, 1936.

Mr. and Mrs. Harper were business owners in Zelienople, operating Harper's Pontiac and Harper's Truck Store in Cranberry Township until 1979. They retired and moved to Arizona and enjoyed many years together. Upon returning to Zelienople in 2005, Mr. Harper died on Dec. 5, 2005.

Most important to her were her home and family. She was an excellent cook and could make a meal from nothing. She enjoyed playing cards and knitting. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered.

She is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Charles) Humes of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; her son, William E. (Jean) Harper of Fombell; her three grandchildren, Dr. Rebecca (Matthew) Gelber of Incline Village, Nev., Malinda (Chad) Sneary of Mooresville, N.C., and William M. (Debra) Harper of Zelienople, and her two great-grandsons, Tristen and Tyler Sneary.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her younger brothers, Herb and Bill Lusk.

Harper— The Harper family will welcome friends of Bernice Lusk Harper, who passed away Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. until the time of a funeral ceremony at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Boylan Funeral Home, 324 E. Grandview Ave., Zelienople, with Pastor Gail Davis officiating. Bernice will be laid to rest at the Zelienople Mausoleum.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor in support of the Gateway Hospice, 9380 McKnight Road, Suite 201, Pittsburgh, PA 15237 or to the Zelienople Area Public Library, 227 S.
