Tractor-trailer overturns, spilling nearly 20 tons of ice cream on I-80
EMLENTON — It wasn’t a sweet treat for early Wednesday morning travelers when a tractor-trailer carrying 39,000 pounds of ice cream overturned on Interstate 80 westbound near the Emlenton Bridge.
According to the Emlenton Fire Department, the crash happened around 12:45 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 20, near mile marker 44 on I-80 westbound.
The road was closed for about three hours while the crash was cleared, the fire department said.
Emlenton Area Ambulance Service and St. Petersburg Volunteer Fire Company assisted on scene along with state police, PennDOT and Hovis Truck Service.
