On Friday, Dec. 22, Butler County’s Humane Society received a donation from a fundraiser led by Amelia Culbertson, manager of the Dollar General store on Mars-Evans City Road outside Evans City.

Culbertson has been running a pet supply drive at the store since the start of November. Among the items collected during this drive are blankets, toys, collars, leashes and food.

“It’s everything you would need for a starter kit to raise an animal,” Culbertson said.

Prior to this, Culbertson had already organized a toy drive and a food drive in 2023. She was encouraged to start giving back to the community.

“Since this store opened up back in June, there was a lot of mixed feelings about it just because it's another franchise thing in a small town,” Culbertson said. “I wanted to do as many things as I could to become part of the community.”

Culbertson added that she would like to do this on an annual basis to support the local Humane Society.

“I know the humane society is a lot smaller than some other shelters nearby. They're a lot more local,” Culbertson said. “And I figured that’d be the best way to do it.”
