Gloria Gruver
Gloria A. Gruver, 85, of Karns City, went to be with the Lord late Friday afternoon, Dec. 22, 2023, while in the company of her family at Parker Personal Care, following a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s.
Gloria was born in Butler on Sept. 22, 1938. She was the daughter of the late Wayne M. and Lorene Seybert Pennington.
She was a 1956 graduate of Fairview Township-Karns City High School, and a longtime active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chicora. Gloria was instrumental in founding the preschool at Holy Trinity.
She and her husband, Stan, enjoyed camping and were members of Clarion County Campers and Buco Travel Trailer Club. The couple were also longtime snowbirds and enjoyed wintering with family and friends at Good Life Resort in Bartow, Fla. Gloria enjoyed traveling, most especially cruises. She was a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed baking cookies for the grandkids, whom she loved “a bushel and a peck.”
She is survived by her husband, Stanley I. Gruver Sr., whom she married at First English Lutheran Church in Chicora on March 4, 1958. Also surviving are five children, Jeffery W. Gruver and his wife, Dolores, of Douglassville, Stanley I. “Butch” Gruver and his wife, Pam, of Butler, Bruce Todd Gruver of Chicora, Jeanne L. Flick and her husband, Paul, of Karns City and Jodi L. Rusnak-Delaney and her husband, David, of Butler; Gloria was affectionately “Grammy” to Amanda, Katelyn, Jazlyn, Renee, Bruce, Hunter, Alex, Nathan, Caralie, Beau and Dylan; and “Great-Grammy” to Evelyn, June, Hudson, Paisley, Bruce III, Gideon, Adalyn, Sylas, Malia, Mylie, Gavin and Gage. Also surviving is a brother, Wayne “Bud” Pennington and his wife, Sylvia, of Chicora; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Jean Gruver of Mayport; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanne L. Pennington.
GRUVER — Friends of Gloria A. Gruver, who died Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at HILE FUNERAL HOME OF KARNS CITY, 128 Main St., Karns City. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joseph Boomhower, her church pastor, officiating. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Sugarcreek Township, Armstrong County.
