Maxine S. Hill

Maxine S. Hill, 88, of Eustis, Fla., died Sunday at Florida Hospital-Waterman, Tavares, Fla.

She was born May 22, 1921, in Rimersburg, the daughter Matson Craig and Edith Traister Stewart.

She was married to Harold S. Hill for more than 50 years. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Hill was a graduate of Union High School, Rimersburg, where she played basketball and was the high school marching band's drum major.

She worked for a number of years as the receptionist at Butler High School before retiring to Eustis, Fla.

She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and in her later years, bingo and rummy.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Knox and her husband, retired Col. Richard Knox of Dexter, Mich.; two grandchildren, Air Force Master Sgt. Cynthia Schmitz and her husband, Air Force Master Sgt. Jason Schmitz, both currently serving at Misawa, Japan, and Army Capt. Richard Knox, currently deployed to Iraq and his wife, Michelle, of White Sands Missile Range, N.M. Two great-grandchildren, Christian Schmitz and Aiyana Clayborne, both of Misawa, also survive. She also is survived by her sister-in-law, Louise Wells, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Harold, and her parents, she was predeceased by two brothers and three sisters.

She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Eustis and also of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Butler, when she lived there.

<B>HILL</B> — Maxine S. Hill, who died Sunday, Feb. 21, 2010, will be buried at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Fla. A memorial service will be held later.
