Butler County commissioners retain positions in reorganization, approve parks and recreation fees
The Butler County commissioners will hold the same positions in their third terms in office this year as they have held since they were first elected.
At Tuesday’s reorganization meeting, Leslie Osche was elected chairwoman, Kim Geyer was elected vice chairman and Kevin Boozel was elected treasurer. All three were elected to their third terms in the 2023 election.
The commissioners positions are based on how they fared in the election. The person who receives the most votes becomes the chairman, the person with the second most votes becomes the vice chairman and the person with the third most votes becomes secretary, according to the county election bureau.
Osche, a Republican, received 30,605 votes; Geyer, a Republican, received 28,714 votes; and Boozel, a Democrat, received 20,028 votes, according to the bureau.
The commissioners reappointed Lori Altman as human resources director and chief clerk, and Julie Graham as solicitor, and reappointed themselves to the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission and Tri-County Workforce Investment Board.
Lauren Schettler was appointed farm director of the Conservation District board.
Osche was appointed liaison to Children and Youth Services, Communications Council and Area Agency on Aging boards and the parks and recreation advisory committee.
Geyer was appointed liaison to Community Partnership, conservation district, Agricultural Land Preservation and Butler County Community College boards and the Airport Authority.
Boozel was appointed liaison to the Local Emergency Planning Commission, Commission on Drugs and Alcohol and the Mental Health/Early Intervention/Intellectual Disabilities Agency.
The commissioners also approved the 2024 fees for the parks and recreation activities and programs, and added a youth flag football league, coed softball league and bike jump clinic.
Most fees are the same as last year, but some were increased. The cost of the babysitter training class increased from $49 to $55. The cost of Santa’s workshop at Alameda Park, breakfast with Santa, the Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt and the Monster Mile increased from $9 after preregistration ends to $10.
The NFL Youth Flag Football League costing $95 per player, coed softball league costing $200 per team and a one-day bike jump clinic costing $35 were added.
The ultimate Frisbee league and the $25 fee for buying discs for night disc golf were eliminated.
At the Alameda Waterpark, admission for people older than 62 years old and military service members with valid identification was reduced from $10 to $8, and five-lesson swim classes were eliminated.
