SRU men earn narrow victory
SLIPPERY ROCK — Maceo Austin blocked a potential game-tying layup at the buzzer as Slippery Rock University’s men’s basketball team held on for a 78-76 win over Davis & Elkins on Monday night at Morrow Field House.
The Rock (5-8) moved to 5-0 at home this season.
Davis & Elkins led by as many as 14 points in the first half and outscored the Senators 45-23 over the game’s final 15 minutes.
Austin led SRU with 27 points and 10 rebounds. Ike Herster had 15 points and six rebounds. Lashon Lindsey had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Sam Rolle IV led the Senators with 23 points, four assists and three steals.
Seton Hill 70, SRU 63 — Luke Howes scored 15 points and had three steals, but The Rock dropped this decision at Seton Hill on Saturday.
Bobby Clifford and Ike Herster added 13 and 11 points, respectively, for The Rock. Clifford had six rebounds and Lashon Lindsey had eight rebounds and five assists.
Drew Green paced Seton Hill (9-4, 4-3) with 15 points and six rebounds.
Seton Hill 92, SRU (women) 55 — Regan Atkins and Kristina Donza scored 11 points each, but SRU (1-9, 1-6) dropped this road game.
Christiane Frye led the Griffins (7-6, 4-3) with 23 points.
The Rock returns to action Saturday, hosting California (Pa.) in a men’s/women’s doubleheaer at Morrow Field House. The women’s game is at 1 p.m., the men’s game at 3 p.m.
