OurBus service reduced from Slippery Rock due to low demand

Nationwide bus service options out of Butler County took a hit this month when OurBus, an operator headquartered in New York City, decided to severely reduce its service to Slippery Rock due to low demand.

According to OurBus representative Axel Hellmann, the stop is almost entirely used by students at Slippery Rock University, and mainly at specific times of the year.

“The service was primarily used, nearly entirely, by Slippery Rock University students traveling for the semester breaks,” Hellmann said. “There was little demand from non-student travelers.”

As a result, the next stop at Slippery Rock will not happen until March 8, when the university lets out for spring break. The option to book a trip on OurBus to or from Slippery Rock disappeared around New Year’s Day before reappearing a few days later.

Per the Pittsburgh City Paper, OurBus debuted service to Slippery Rock in mid-2022, on a line that took riders to New York City. According to the company’s website, the Slippery Rock stop is located outside of Miller Auditorium on the campus of SRU.

As of January 2024, aside from these rare occasions when OurBus will stop in Slippery Rock, the only nationwide bus operations anywhere in Butler County is Greyhound Bus Lines. Greyhound makes occasional stops near Complete Travel Service on Main Street in Zelienople.
