Volunteers come together for MLK event

People gathered at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Evans City Monday for a first-time event intended to honor the memory of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
The day began at 9:45 a.m. with a short devotion session, then broke those in attendance into groups for community service projects.
Some organized a bingo game with elderly patients at The Grove at Harmony, and others participate in a singalong with seniors at the same location. Another group prepared goody bags for the staff.
The new event began as a collaboration between St. John’s, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Evans City, St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Evans City and Crestview Community Church in Callery.
