Charges filed against man accused of Slippery Rock stabbing

Charges were filed Tuesday, Jan. 16, against a Greensburg man accused of stabbing a Slippery Rock man in the neck earlier this week during a party at The Grove apartments in Slippery Rock.

Brennan J. Steeley, 24, was charged with felony aggravated assault, misdemeanors simple assault and reckless endangerment.

According to police, Steeley stabbed Oliver Valera, 22, with a fixed-blade knife early Monday morning.

Charging documents indicate first responders were called to the apartment complex on Harmony Road around 4:19 a.m. Monday, where they spoke with Steeley about the alleged stabbing.

Police said Steeley was hosting a party in his apartment, which some friends attended after going to a nearby bar. The friends brought Valera along, Steely told police.

According to charging documents, Steeley said guests at the party were using marijuana and drinking alcohol during the event but believed Valera had given the guests “a harder drug.”

After asking Valera to leave the party, Steeley stabbed him with a fixed-blade knife, police said.

In a later interview with police, Valera said Steeley accused him of drugging guests and before stabbing him in the neck.

Trooper Bertha Cazy, public information officer for Troop D, said charges were not being filed against Valera.

“No evidence was found on scene or through the trooper’s investigation that showed Valera did any of the things he was accused of,” she said.

Police did not report the extent of Valera’s injuries, but said he was taken to a hospital from the scene.

Steeley’s preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.
