MIDDLESEX TWP — The supervisors are still trying to work out how much money it will contribute to Quality EMS, the ambulance service which covers the township and several other municipalities in Butler County.

No action was taken by the board of supervisors at their meeting on Wednesday night, Jan. 17. However, members of the board had an off-agenda discussion with Quality EMS executive director Conrad Pfeifer.

Pfeifer estimates that the organization will need $600,000 of funding per year over the next three years to cover the costs of increasing wages and other operational expenses.

In addition to Middlesex Township, the coverage area for Quality EMS includes Adams Township, Mars, Valencia, Callery, and part of Forward Township.

Of those municipalities, Adams Township has agreed to donate $125,000 in the 2024 fiscal year. Forward Township has pledged “about $8,000” from Local Service Tax revenue, while Callery will pitch in $3,000.

“That averages about $18 a residence,” Pfeifer said. “Not resident with a T, but residence.”

At the Middlesex Township reorganization meeting on Jan. 2, the board tabled a resolution to enter into an agreement with Quality EMS on the amount of money it would contribute to the agency. Township manager Jeffrey Winkle said that the board needed to see what other municipalities in Quality’s coverage area would do.
