Dr. Frank T. 'Tom' Wigton Jr. Butler optometrist

Dr. Frank Thompson "Tom" Wigton Jr., 84 of Bran-dywine Village, formerly of West Muntz Avenue, died at 5 p.m. Monday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia Lutheran Services, Cabot.

Born Sept. 22, 1922, in Butler, he was the son of Frank T. and Helen McKelvey Wigton.

He was a graduate of Butler High School and attended Allegheny College, where he played varsity basketball and soccer. He received his degree as a doctor of optometry in 1949 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Dr. Wigton established his practice in 1949 and was privileged to serve patients in Butler until October 2006.

He was a life member of Calvary Presbyterian Church until it dissolved in January 2005 and had served as a stated clerk, elder and trustee of the church for many years.

He also was a member of the American Optometric Association and the Western Pennsylvania Optometric Association; a former member and past president of the Butler Lions Club; past president of the Blind Association of Butler, the Butler branch of the American Cancer Society, and the Western Pennsylvania Bible Conference; past board member of the YMCA; a charter member of the Butler Toastmasters Club; and a member of the Butler Country Club, VFW Post 249 and American Legion Post 778.

He enjoyed his family, sports and golf and was the 1991 Club Champion at Key Royale Golf Club in Holmes Beach, Fla.

During World War II, he was a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps and served as a photo recon pilot in P-38s flying missions over Germany.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Johnson Wigton, whom he married on June 10, 1947; a daughter, Mrs. C. Lee (Susan L.) Benner of Duluth, Ga.; three sons, Dr. William R. Wigton and Dr. Jeffrey S. Wigton, both of Butler and David T. Wigton of Bradenton, Fla.; a brother, James A. Wigton of Butler; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nieces; and five nephews.

Dr. Wigton was preceded in death by two brothers, Lt. William Wigton and Cpl. Richard Wigton, who were both killed in Europe during WII.

<B>WIGTON </B>— Friends of Dr. Frank Thompson "Tom" Wigton Jr., who died Monday, April 30, 2007, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the <B>Thompson-Miller Funeral Home</B>, 124 E. North St. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Grace @ Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Tim Bupp, church pastor and Allen Moran officiating. Burial will be at the Greenlawn Burial Estates, Mount Chestnut.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Seneca Hills Bible Camp P.O.
