American Red Cross to honor Cranberry Township lifeguards
The American Red Cross Southwestern Pennsylvania Chapter will honor four Cranberry Township lifeguards and their instructor with Red Cross Lifesaving Awards, a national program that recognizes individuals who step up to help save or sustain a life.
On June 19, lifeguards at the Cranberry Township Waterpark rescued a 12-year-old boy who was drowning in the pool. The lifeguards used skills and knowledge learned in an American Red Cross Training Services course to help save the boy’s life.
The four lifeguards were Greta Schmidt, Olivia Schzure, Garrett Shreve and Paige Welch, and their Red Cross instructor was David Hutner, who is also assistant director of Cranberry Township Parks and Recreation.
The honorees will be presented a certificate, citation and lapel pin from the American Red Cross at a Cranberry Township supervisors meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 1.
