Tornado bowlers cage Cougars
Both Butler bowling teams celebrated Senior Recognition Night with a win at Family Bowlaway on Wednesday.
The Golden Tornado girls swept Blackhawk 7-0 while the boys topped the Cougars 5-2.
Leading Butler’s girls was senior Kelsee McConnell, who rolled a 622 series, including a high game of 225, and finished the regular season with a 201.2 average.
Makenzie Zimmerman added a 608 series with a game of 223 as Butler completed a 10-0 regular season and advance to the WPIBL Team Championships Feb. 15 in Pittsburgh.
Colin Dorcy rolled single games of 213 and 215 as part of a 619 series to pace Butler’s boys. Micah Potts’ high game of 255 highlighted a 613 series.
Greg Wilbert, who led the team with 197.5 average this season, added games of 215 and 204. Butler’s boys (8-2) will also compete at the league’s team championship, scheduled Feb. 14 in Pittsburgh.
Freeport sweeps Saint Joseph — The Yellowjacket boys and girls both dominated in 7-0 efforts.
The boys received games of 224 and 215 from Colin Cummings, who rolled a 623 series. Dylan Granata added a single 213.
For Freeport’s girls, Hannah Windows’ 669 series included games of 238 and 236. Also bowling games of 200-plus were Mackensie Livingston (217, 212), Kylie McConahy (212, 203) and Olivia Svitek (209).
Boys Basketball
David Dessicino had a double-double of 14 points and 12 rebounds to lead Moniteau to its fourth straight victory, a 65-54 win at Laurel.
Chason Rugg and Landon Kelly also scored 14 points for the Warriors (9-8) while Andrew Zepeda scored 13 and dished out seven assists.

Knoch 58, Greensburg Salem 47 — Derek Lang and Jackson Bauman scored 18 points each on Tuesday night to help Knoch to this victory. Teegan Finucan added 12 points for the Knights.
Knoch improved to 12-6 overall this season, 5-2 in section play. The Knights host Indiana on Friday night and will be honoring seniors Zarian Finucan and Jacob Fox.
Hillel Academy 48, Summit Academy 41 — Kristian Clayton scored 12 points for the Knights in a losing cause. Summit Academy held Hillel to four points in the third quarter to pull within one, but could not get over the hump.
Yonah Itskowitz scored 21 points, Noam Azagury 19 for Hillel.
Girls Basketball
Moniteau’s 18-2 run in the first quarter paved the way to a 43-27 victory at Cranberry.
Abbey Jewart had eight points and five rebounds for the Warriors (15-5), Catherine Kelly scored 10 points and Emily Matz tallied seven boards. Sophia Fleeger drained two treys and finished with eight points.
