Alberta M. Joyner
Alberta M. Joyner, 91, of 745 Mercer-Greenville Road, Mercer, formerly of the Wade D. Mertz Towers in Sharpsville, died at 3:40 p.m. Wednesday at Woodland Place, Coolspring, Mercer County, after an extended illness.
Born in Butler, Aug. 22, 1917, she was the daughter of August G. Raabe and Nancy Hamel Raabe.
A graduate of Butler High School, she was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, baking and crafts. She was an avid reader and enjoyed time spent with grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a member of the Sharpsville Presbyterian Church and was president of the Ecclesian Class, when the Sharpsville Presbyterian woman's organization was formed.
She served as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother.
She was the widow of Thomas L. Joyner, whom she married in July 1939. He passed away Jan. 14, 1982.
Surviving are three daughters, Nancy Joyner of Mentor, Ohio, Peggy (Jeff) McCann of Clark and Susan (Nick) Forte of Troy, Ohio; a son, Thomas (Dianne) Joyner of Lecanto, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Judi Joyner of Sharon; and a sister, Mary Diamond of Zanesville, Ohio. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Don Joyner of Virginia Beach, Va., Joe Joyner and his wife, Nina, of Sharon, Jamie Haase and her husband, Gregg, of Warren, Mich., and Katie Maikranz of Estero, Fla.; two great-grandchildren, Kaela Joyner and Gregory Haase; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Donald Joyner; sisters, Margaret Hawkins, Amelia Leighton, Gladys Hawks and Alice Kummer; and brothers, Marl, Francis and Charles Raabe.
<B>JOYNER</B> — Friends of Alberta M. Joyner, who died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the <B>Stephen J. Sherman Funeral Home</B>, 2201 Highland Road, Hermitage. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Lori Holstein officiating.
