By beating Mercyhurst at Morrow Field House, 49-46, Wednesday night, the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team moved to .500 on the campaign.

The Lakers led by a point with under 20 seconds remaining, then redshirt sophomore Jomo Goings knocked down a pair of free throws to give the hosts a 47-46 advantage. Ike Herster’s dunk on the Rock’s next possession accounted for the final count.

Goings went for 12 poitns and five rebounds for SRU (10-10, 8-6), while Herster bucketed a team-high 13 points. As of right now, Slippery Rock has sole possession of fourth place in the PSAC West standings.

Mercyhurst 66, SRU (women) 41 — The Rock whittled a 19-point deficit down to four in the third frame, but fell to the Lakers at home. Slippery Rock (2-15, 2-12) was paced on the scoreboard by Regan Atkins’ 16 points, which moved her into the top five among freshman scorers in school history.

Kristina Donza added 10 points, while Deryn Moye had seven.
