Karen Evans McClure
Karen Evans McClure, formerly of Butler, passed away March 10.
The daughter of Ruth and William Evans, Karen was born Sept. 10, 1948, in Butler. She grew up with the love of her brothers and sisters, William, Joyce, Robert, Debbie, John, Joan, Brian and Brad, who provided her with tremendous amounts of love and support to help her overcome adversity and achieve her dreams.
She graduated from Carlow College in 1970 with a major in psychology and received a master's degree in education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1977.
Karen married the love of her life, Michael McClure, on May 29, 1971. They did everything together over their 46 years of marriage and were blessed with five children, Michael, Meredith, Matthew, Stephen and Meghan; three amazing daughters-in-law, Brandi, Lindsay and Fabiola; and three grandchildren, Cullen, Matthew and Katherine.
Karen dedicated her life to her family and ensured the happiness of her husband, children and grandchildren with her unending devotion.
In addition to her family, she worked tirelessly with charitable endeavors in the Vestal, N.Y., community. She was president of the Lourdes Auxiliary and a member of the Junior League of Binghamton, N.Y., from which in 1997 she received the prestigious Watrous Cup for outstanding contribution to the League and the community.
Karen was always more concerned with providing for the people around her than providing for herself, as seeing joy on the faces of her friends and family brought her true happiness. Her immense generosity and tireless love of and devotion to her family will be her everlasting legacy.
MCCLURE — The family of Karen Evans McClure, who died Friday, March 10, 2017, received friends Thursday at the Barber Memorial Home, 428 Main St., Johnson City, N.Y.A funeral Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Vincent de Paul/Blessed Sacrament, 165 Clifton Blvd., Vestal, N.Y. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peters North Cemetery, Butler.In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be made in Karen's memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), 26 Broadway, 14th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10004, www.jdrf.org.
