Man pleads guilty, sentenced for killing bald eagle in Washington County
A Canonsburg man was sentenced to probation and community service after pleading guilty to shooting and killing a bald eagle in Washington County, U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan said Monday, Feb. 5.
Rodney Thomas, 51, shot and killed a mature bald eagle with an air rifle May 12, 2023 in Mount Pleasant Township, Washington County, according to a news release.
United States District Judge Christy Criswell Wiegand sentenced Thomas to serve two years probation, perform 50 hours of community service, pay a fine of $2,500 and restitution of $9,800 to the Pennsylvania Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Council.
