KARNS CITY — Multiple fire departments rushed to fight a fire at an oil refinery Thursday afternoon, Feb. 8 on Petrolia Street in Karns City.
The fire was reported at 12:50 p.m. at Calumet Penreco location at 138 Petrolia St.
Firefighters blocked the main gate to the plant as they battled the fire, quickly getting the flames under control, according to scanner reports.
Within an hour, all responding fire departments except the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department, which was in command of the scene, were called off.
Those responding to the fire also included Bruin Volunteer Fire Department, Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, Emlenton Fire Department, Parker Volunteer Fire Department Station, Sugarcreek Township Volunteer Fire Department and Karns City EMS.
Those at the office of Calumet Penreco in Karns City declined to comment.
The refinery produces mineral oils and petrolatum products commonly found in cosmetics and baby products.
