Snow expected Friday night, road conditions could get dicey

This weekend is a good one for some hot tea and a good book, as National Weather Service in Pittsburgh meteorologists say snow is expected to complicate travel starting Friday, Feb. 16.

According to meteorologist Lee Hendricks, the snow will start coming down between 5 and 6 p.m. Friday, with the heaviest expected between 7 and 11 p.m. Temperatures are estimated for the lower 20s.

“It will cause some issues on the roads, especially once sun sets, things tend to get sloppy,” Hendricks said.

Accumulation of 1 to 3 inches is expected outside by Saturday morning, with light dusting predicted throughout the day and highs in the 20 degree range.

Nighttime will drop temperatures to 18 degrees with 15 to 20 mph, which will increase to the 25-35 mph gusts into Sunday.

“It’s not going to be a good weekend,” Hendricks said.

He said by Monday, the snow will start melting under the 40 degree temperatures predicted.
