Mars students selected for PMEA District Jazz Band
Three Mars Area High School students were selected for the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association District Jazz Band Festival held Friday and Saturday, Feb. 16 and 17, at Slippery Rock University.
Carson Mahan and Carter Snyder, who both play the trombone, were selected along with Jace Smith, who plays the bass. The students were selected by solo audition.
Guest conductors included David Glover, Slippery Rock University music department chair and assistant professor of percussion; Mike Kamuf, trumpeter, composer and Youngstown State University and Montgomery College jazz faculty member; and Robert Traugh, composer and Duquesne University adjunct professor of composition.
The festival will conclude with a public concert at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, at SRU’s Miller Auditorium.
