Joseph W. Schurer, 17, was awarded the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 400 of Mars.

He is the son of Joseph and Sandra Schurer of Mars.

For his Eagle Scout project, Joseph led a team of youths to build 24 robotics competition tables which will be used for the First Lego League Robotics Tournaments and STEM education throughout Western Pennsylvania.

Having earned 21 merit badges, Joseph received his Arrow of Light in 2011 and is a member of the Order of the Arrow with Ordeal distinction. He has served his troop in positions of assistant patrol leader, patrol leader and troop guide.

Joseph is set to graduate from Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic this year, and he intends to pursue a career as an engineer.
