William Stevenson

Stevenson

William Dodds Stevenson, 84, of Butler, passed away and went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024.

William was born on Jan. 3, 1940, to Enos Ford Clayton Stevenson and Helen McGlashan Stevenson in Butler.

After William graduated from Butler High School, he joined the workforce. He spent a few years working at Thorofare Grocery and Armco before beginning a long career in the tool and die manufacturing industry. After an apprenticeship at Oberg Industries and working at a few other local tool and die companies, William spent 25 years working at Penn United Technologies, where he retired in 2000 as vice president of sales.

William was a founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in America, Butler, and most recently attended North Main Street Church of God. He served in many capacities from usher to choir member to deacon and elder. He loved serving on construction projects to build, maintain and restore churches, bible camps and homes. His love and service to the Lord was priority one. He gained many lifelong friends through the church. They vacationed and went through life together following biblical principles.

In January 1961, William married Charlene May Novak at Grace Reformed Church in Harmony. William and Charlene had two children, a daughter, Lisa (Stevenson) Cupps and a son, David Stevenson. He made family his next priority. He loved attending his children’s and grandchildren’s many events and would step up to serve in any capacity needed to make those activities and events successes. He made sure to tell his family he was proud of them and loved them. He loved family get-togethers with his nieces and nephews and all the brothers- and sisters-in-law. He loved traveling with friends and family and always provided a little comic relief to bring smiles and laughter to all.

Surviving William are a son, David (Tracy) Stevenson of Butler; five grandchildren, Erik Cupps, Stephanie (Cupps) Arienzo, Tristen Stevenson, Tori Stevenson and Landon Stevenson; and three great-grandchildren, Kendall Cupps, Natalie Arienzo and Courtney Arienzo.

William was preceded in death by his mother and father; two brothers, James Stevenson and John “Larry” Stevenson; one sister, Jacqueline Stevenson; his daughter, Lisa Cupps; and his wife, Charlene Stevenson.
