Meridian Road project to begin in March
PennDOT announced Monday that a $685,000 construction project to repair a landslide along a portion of Meridian Road between Railroad Street and Smith Road in Penn Township will begin later this month.
At the start of the project, traffic will be controlled along the slide area using flaggers during 12-hour workdays Monday through Friday. Stop signs at each end of the hazard will continue to be used during non-workdays.
From about April 1 through May 31, a 22.4-mile detour will be in place for a maximum of 28 days to complete the removal of the hillside area needed for the new road location. Additional project information and the official detour route will be released once dates are confirmed.
Provisions are in place with PennDOT, Penn Township and the contractor during the project to allow emergency vehicle access to Renfrew and to allow residents to exit and reenter in the event there is an issue that closes the Renfrew bridge.
