Betty L. McCurdy
Betty Louise McCurdy, 89, Carrie Way, Grove City, died at her home Friday.
Mrs. McCurdy was born Oct. 9, 1921, to Henry L and Annie B. McGinnis Sloan in Erico, Butler County.
Betty graduated from Eau Claire High School in 1940.
During World War II, she was employed by the Deshon Veterans Affairs Hospital in Butler and the New Process Co. in Warren, Pa.
In 1953, she graduated from the Bashline Rossman School of Nursing in Grove City, where she served on the staff for 13 years. Also she was employed at Northwest Pennsylvania Bank and Trust until her marriage to Joseph H. McCurdy in 1973. He preceded her in death in 1982.
She was a member of the Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City, where she was a former deacon, a member and past officer in Presbyterian Women, a member of Fellowship, the Good Cheer Sunday School Class and the church Prayer Chain.
She volunteered for more than 20 years for American Red Cross Blood Bank, the Grace Food Pantry and the Meals on Wheels programs. She was a charter member of the Bible a Month Club of the American Bible Society since 1962, having contributed well over a 1,000 Bibles and New Testaments throughout the world.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Emeline) Ross and Mrs. Harold (Alice) Altmire, both of Eau Claire; 14 nieces and nephews; 19 great-nieces and great-nephews; two great-great-nieces; and a great-great-nephew
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded by two brothers, Harold B. and Donald E. Sloan; and two nephews.
<B>MCCURDY </B>— Friends of Betty Louise McCurdy, who died Friday, Feb. 11, 2011, may call at the <B>FICCA FUNERAL HOME</B>, 203 E. Pine St., Grove City, Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. Services will follow at 4 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. John W. Culp officiating. Interment will be in the East Unity Cemetery in Cherry Valley.
